Scientists say the negative image of wolves is not always justified
Wolves lead and dogs follow - but both are equally capable of working with humans, according to research that adds a new twist in the tale of how one was domesticated from the other.
Mutts owe their agreeable nature to "the wolf inside", the investigation, of whelps raised close by individuals, recommends.
Yet, over the span of training, those that were accommodating to people were chosen for reproducing, which improves them the pet today.

Wolves were similarly ready to participate with people yet, in addition, led the pack
Dark wolves, at the Wolf Science Center in Vienna, were similar in the same class as mutts at working with their mentors to drag a plate of sustenance towards them by each taking one end of a rope.
However, in contrast to the puppies in the examination, they were happy to attempt their very own strategies also -, for example, taking the rope from the coach.

Friederike Range, from the Konrad Lorenz Institute, at Vetmeduni Vienna University, stated: "It demonstrates that, while wolves will in general start conduct and lead the pack, hounds are bound to sit back and watch what the human accomplice does and pursue that conduct."
Around 30,000 years back, wolves moved to the edges of human camps to search for scraps.
The resulting "subduing" procedure of training and particular reproducing then gradually started to modify their conduct and qualities and they at the end developed into the puppies that we know today.
